11 months... yikes!

I am in complete disbelief that my baby is 11 months old. That's only one month away from being and entire year old! Where has this year gone? It seems like just yesterday I was sleeping in a hospital bed with my brand new, tiny,  infant snuggled up on my chest. Sometimes I miss that. Ok, a lot of times I miss that- snuggling with Owen. He is so active and curious and constantly on the go that he rarely has time to snuggle with Mommy these days, and when he does its for literally less that two seconds. He'll put his head on my shoulder and pause for a second and then spring it back up as if he suddenly remembered something really important he needs to do.

This month has been a long one. O caught a bad stomach bug in the nursery at Catholic Camp and it lasted almost 10 days. He spent most of that time with only breast milk and pedialyte as nourishment. He lost a little over a pound, but I'm hoping he'll have gained it all back plus some by his one year appt.

We've also had to deal with some painful teething this month. His top left tooth cut through at the beginning of the month without an issue, but now the top right is cutting and the poor baby is feeling it. He's always been a great sleeper and its waking him up at night and making his really fussy and clingy all day.

He has quite the temper. He knows what he wants and doesn't want and he'll let everyone around know, too. The whining has begun and it is not even a little cute. We're trying to nip it in the bud, but it's tough since he's still too young to do any kind of real disciplining. Right now we're doing lots of "No, sir!" and redirecting. He also loves to do the body flop if you pick him up when he doesn't want you too. That's super fun...

Our favorite places this month are the pool and the playground in the mall. O is such a little fish. He'll dunk his face in the water and come back up with a big smile. He loves to "swim" and kicks his feet as you guide him through the water. For the longest time he would freak out if you tried to lay him on his back to float, but now he'll do it leaning up against Daddy and clinging for dear life to the back of his neck. It is the sweetest thing to watch. We like the mall play are because there's nothing O can't touch or play with. He can crawl around for an hour without needing me to follow after him and make sure hes ok. He loves feeling independent and I love the break!

He's starting to be more interested in books. His favorite is "Ten Little Lady Bugs." When we're playing in this room he'll spot it from across the room and want to read it 10 times. He also loves to make animal sounds. He'll watch you make the sound a few times and you can see him thinking hard about how to do it and then he'll try. He's such a smarty pants!

He is a total chatter box. From the minute he wakes up right up until he's being rocked to sleep, he's talking away. "Dadadada" Maaaamamama" "Mommommom" "Fafafafa" "Badada" and all kinds of other gibberish. He's also starting to try to sign back some of the signs I use with him, especially "all done" and "milk."

I am so proud of the little boy he is becoming, but I also hate how fast time seems to be flying. I plan on soaking up every last minute of Owen's final month as an infant.

april citrus lane review

after having such a good experience with citrus lane last month i was anxiously awaiting the arrivel of this month's box. i can't even tell you how excited i was when i opened the mailbox yesterday and it was here! it's probably pretty sad how giddy these boxes make me, but oh well.
retail value
silicone placemat from oogaa- $8.99

pakin' smart stack-n-seal from innobaby- $8.99

total box worth- $35.92

i would absolutely say we got our money's worth again. since we've had two successful months with citrus lane i think we're gonna upgrade to the 6-month subscription for $21 a month instead of monthly for $25.

preparing for a little one: registering

making a baby registry can be overwhelming. there is so much stuff out there and it takes a lot of time and effort to figure out which products are going to be just right for your baby, especially before your baby is even born.
having been around the pregnancy block already, i guess i have a little expertise on what items you simply must have on your registry.

1) Aden + Anais swaddling blankets- these are A-MAZING! seriously the number one item all pregnant momma's need to stock up on. they are a little pricey but they're worth it. the light breathable material makes for easy swaddling without the worry of over heating you baby (which is a common new momma mistake)

2) an automatic bouncy chair- it bounces your baby so you don't have to. need i say more? this was a life saver during Owen's first couple months. as much as you might think that you'll never want to put your baby down now, 7lbs gets heavy quick.

3) gauze cloth diapers- but not for what you'd think. these make the best burp cloths. don't bother wasting your time trying other burp cloths. trust me on this one.

4) Baby K'tan baby carrier- some doctors call the first 3 months of a baby's life the 4th trimester, because they are still so fragile and need constant care. since Owen was born a month early this period lasted more like 4 months. for that period he basically lived in the Baby K'tan. it provided a way for him to feel secure and close to me while giving me my hands free to do other things.

5) breast pump- if you're planning to breast feed at all a pump is a must have. it was a life saver in the first few weeks of Owen's life. he had difficulty latching on so i had to pump and feed him with a syringe. depending on if your planning on going back to work or breast feeding exclusively you can decided whether a manual or electric pump is best for your situation. i was fine with a manual since its rare for me to not be home with Owen when he needs to nurse.

6) diapers- any size, style, brand, you name it. you can never have too many diapers. this is something you'll learn all too quickly when your little one arrives. i would recommend thinking beyond the newborn size because it will shock you how fast your tiny baby grows out of them.

while i have compiled a list of 6 items you absolutely must register for i also go by the rule that more is more when it comes to making a registry. register for anything and everything that you would like to have for your baby (nothing you wouldn't be happy to receive) in all different price ranges. make sure there are little items on the registry for your starving college student brother and big ticket items for your 4 best friends who want to all chip for a big gift.

pick one store and make a full registry there but open registries at all the stores that offer a baby registry- you get a fun freebie gift at each one!

more than anything have fun while your registering. make it a date with your hubby and let him hold the fun price gun (it'll make him feel like he's helping make the decisions)

it's ok..

Its Ok Thursdays
life's been a little hectic lately, so i'm gonna take some time to say it's ok.
it's ok...

...that i wore sweats or yoga pants all but one day this week
...to love and hate the bachelor all at the same time
...that AshLee bugs me way more than Tierra does
...to forget what i'm saying while i'm in the middle of a sentence. where is my brain these days?
...to love when my hubby comes home all hot and sweaty.. as long as he keeps his distance! i like the view, not the smell ;)
...to buy the fake girl scout cookies from wal mart cause they're way cheaper!
...to eat said cookies periodically throughout the day. i swear they taunt me from the kitchen!
...to be ridiculously excited for Owen's first Easter and already have everything ready
...to have bought all that Easter stuff before O was born
...to be pissed off when people decide that your news is theirs to tell, even when specifically told not to.
...to want private things to stay private
...that i'm typing this with one hand because i'm eating cheetos with the other and definitely don't want orange crumbs all over my laptop
...to miss O when he sleeps for longer than an hour during the day

can you blame me?

question
is it easier being a boy or a girl? would you ever trade?

yes my baby did just spit up on me...
i probably could have made a new video, but i crack up every time i watch this so i just had to share!
oh and i forgot to mention that i would never in a million years trade.
i like being girly and wearing make up and painting my nails
and hard as it was, i loved giving birth!

standing up

the fact the my little baby is going to be 7 months old on monday is kinda blowing my mind....
where the heck is the time going?
i know i should probably be used to the months feeling like weeks, but each one sneaks up on me way too quickly.
7 months just sounds so old. when i think about a 7 month old i don't picture a tiny baby, yet my sweet boy still feels like my tiny baby. but everyday he grows up right before my eyes. i swear i can already hear him saying "i can do it my self! i'm not a baby!"

his latest thing is standing...
he can't pull up yet and he still hasn't quite figured out that if he lets go he's going to fall, but that boy.. he just ain't happy if he ain't standing these days.

i'm slowly beginning to accept the fact that this is just the beginning (and the smallest act) of him claiming his independence.
watching him become his own person is bittersweet...

Owen is 6 months old... already?

my sweet baby boy,
when i think about the past six months of my life, i can honestly say they have been the best months of my life thus far. you have brought so much light and joy in to your daddy and my life. each and every new day with you is an adventure and i love rediscovering the world as you discover it for the first time.

time seems to be flying by so quickly, i sometimes want it to just stop so i can keep you my sweet little baby forever, but at the same time i never want to hold you back and watching you begin to become an independent little man is amazing.

God blessed me far beyond what i deserve when he gave me you. my promise to you is that i will always try my hardest to be the best mom i can be.

i will always always love you, son.
no matter what, no matter where, no matter when.

love,
Mama
